- Point of entry water treatment systems using ultraviolet light and micro filtration do
provide domestic water that exceeds Canadian Drinking Water Regulations without the use of
chlorine.
- Point of entry water treatment removes parasites such as giardia and cryptosporidium
which chlorine does not remove.
- Chlorine is toxic to humans. Scientific proof exists to show that human consumption of
chlorine treated domestic water can and does cause cancers of the digestive system,
miscarriages and serious birth defects.
- The inhalation of chloroform vapors created while showering or bathing is even more
harmful than drinking the water, and these vapors spread throughout the home.
- Point of use systems have been in place in 5 Kootenay schools since 1991. They were
tested an average of 4.8 times per year. On every test, water quality exceeded standards
accepted by B.C. Ministry of Health.
- Ottawa, Ontario; Las Vegas, Nevada; Emporia, Kansas; Littleton, Massachusetts and many
European cities have turned away from chlorination in favor of other treatment options.
- The Safe Drinking Water Regulation does not require that surface water be chlorinated
but rather that it be made potable by whatever means. These may include ozonation, slow
sand filtration, ultra-violet light, and microfiltration.
- Over 90% of the water used by the Erickson water system is used for irrigation purposes.
Chlorine destroys microorganisms in the soil, and runoff will harm fish and other
wildlife.
- There are no endemic outbreaks of waterborne coliform related diseases in the Creston
area on record.
- Erickson's water supply is not in a crisis as we have been led to believe. We have a
source of water that is unspoiled by human invasion. The people of Erickson value it for
the precious resource that it is and drink it everyday with no ill effects.
- Point of Entry water treatment is the best option for water disinfection in Erickson.
Totally effective systems costing less than $1000 are now in operation in Erickson.
- Since April 29th the access to Erickson's water intake at Arrow Creek has been blockaded
to prevent delivery of chlorine and further work on chlorine instalation.
