What is the Erickson Water Action Group?

The Erickson Water Action Group (commonly referred to as WAG) is a group of Erickson residents who are fighting an order from the Ministry of Health to chlorinate their drinking water.  The members of WAG feel that chlorination represents a serious health risk and are presently fighting the matter in court.

Well, where is Erickson?

Erickson is a small rural community located in the south eastern corner of British Columbia, Canada.  Erickson supports a population of roughly 700 households.   The great majority of land in Erickson is used for agricultural and horticultural uses, with over 90% of the water used for these purposes alone.  Erickson is located 5 min from Creston, BC, 1 hour from Cranbrook, BC,  and 1½ hours from either Trail, BC,  Nelson, BC or Castlegar, BC.

What does WAG want?

Simple, NO CHLORINE.  The residents of Erickson are willing to work with the Ministry of Health to come to a water disinfection method that is suitable for everyone.  At present the only method the MOH is interested in is chlorine.  WAG has proposed the use of point-of-entry systems (for more information see Erickson Water Facts) which are safer than chlorine but the MOH is adamant in its use of chlorine.  This has left the residents of Erickson no choice but to have this matter settled in court.

What you can do?

The Erickson Water Action Group needs the support of the public to demonstrate to the MOH that people are watching and they do care about people's health and right to determine how to live their lives.  Click on the Support button and send emails to the government officials listed and let them know your watching.  Donations are also greatly appreciated and can be sent to:
